Do

The Scope 3 Peer Group is much more than a ‘talking shop’. Through our ‘Do Projects’, we empower you to take action on Scope 3 – whether that’s leveraging the power of procurement or getting buy-in from your executive teams.

Supplier Decarbonisation & Renewables

This Working Group consists of a series of workshops with your Peers - designed to help you and your organization understand how to more easily drive real decarbonisation outcomes - rather than just measuring a lack of improvement a little more accurately! It also helps you determine if a supply chain renewables program makes sense and how to design it to drive successful outcomes.

Procurement

Procurement Training

The Scope 3 Peer Group members have identified the need for high-quality, consistent, simple and accessible training for their procurement teams on supply chain decarbonization. Scope 3 is bewildering enough as it is for sustainability professionals! We need to help procurement focus their skills and expertise to create more value for the business; engage suppliers effectively; collect the necessary data; and make great decisions with their suppliers using it.

We are partnering with Equipoise to co-develop the training and are currently crowd-sourcing funding for the development of the training.

Those already supporting and funding include: Amazon, AstraZeneca, Essity, GSK, Novonesis, Takeda, Emitwise, Environmental Defense Fund, Schneider Electric, Guidehouse and the Supplier Leadership on Climate Transition.

Carbon Pricing

This is the Working Group of those wanting & willing to pilot the Carbon Pricing Principles for Procurement - or already doing so.

We discuss progress by those implementing or piloting; share and capture best practice; build a support group of pilots at different levels of maturity and different sectors; and continually improve the Principles.

Climate Contracts

This Working Group explores how to best embed climate and carbon into contracting and the way that procurement works; and crucially, the tracking and evidencing of impact.

This Working Group is run in partnership with The Chancery Lane Project and includes:

  • Those that are already including contract clauses on climate - and are keen to improve their effectiveness and impact (as well as willing to share their experiences)

  • Those that are actively interested to begin embedding clauses - and would like to make sure they understand the best practice; challenges; and change management required

  • Those that are intrigued to understand more before committing to do so

Category Decarbonisation

We will soon be collaborating Peers together both across and deep in value chains to tackle scope 3 in key categories and to embed in procurement category strategies.

We will be looking across common, indirect categories such as IT & Tech and Property; as well as deep into high-emitting categories such as Critical Minerals.

Scope 3 Tools Review

The Scope 3 Peer Group asks the nearly 3,000 practitioners to provide raw and honest feedback on the range of tools that they’ve been demoed, piloted or implemented.

The landscape of platforms and tools is noisy and confusing, while 86% of members are procuring tools in the next 12 months.

We want to provide this insight free and unfiltered to both practitioners and solution-providers everywhere.

AI for Scope 3

We are exploring how AI can be used to focus human resources on actual decarbonisation in supply chains.

We will also be supporting to efforts to reduce the environmental impact of AI and collaborate the tech industry together with their many customers, rather than duplicative effort of individual customers’ doing supplier engagement.

Supplier engagement

Supplier Heat Decarbonisation

This Working Group will explore the significant opportunities and the considerable challenges of decarbonising heat in supply chains.

We will hear from brands who are engaging suppliers and from those leading programs that understand the technological, regulatory, geographic and financial barriers to removing fossil fuels from the supply chain.

The ambition is to explore a global collaborative effort, cross-industry and with shared suppliers.

Internal engagement

Scope 3 Maturity Benchmark

The Scope 3 Maturity Benchmark is a free tool created in partnership with Proxima.

The aim is to provide a tool that could help participating organizations compare and contrast resourcing, progress & plans on scope 3.

Participants access the collective learnings of the community, who have worked together with Proxima to create a model that reflects their real insights on Scope 3; what they have done, are doing, and plan to do next.

The output for the participating organization is the ability to benchmark vs. peers and then build credible and realistic action plans to move faster and with more certainty toward Net Zero.

The output for the community is that the more we each contribute, the more we learn, and the faster we go.

Scope 3 Strategy Collective

A cross-industry collaboration to embed scope 3 into procurement strategy.

The Scope 3 Strategy Collective is an initiative born out of The Scope 3 Peer Group and the insights taken from The Scope 3 Maturity Benchmark.

There is a disconnect between the ambition and executive sponsorship to set Net Zero targets and the procurement strategy, which is key to delivering Scope 3 reductions.

The Collective is a project that aims to address this mismatch.

Policy and advocacy

SBTi & GHG Protocol consultations

The Scope 3 Peer Group is available to non-profit initiatives to use the community of corporate practitioners to consult and ultimately develop better policy and standards as a result.
